Producer & Director
As a teenager, Michael hosted a rock radio show and spent all his pocket money on rolls of film for his 1971 Cannon A1. He is passionate about cooking and documentaries and on his free time he does voluntary work for the local Cinema Society and mentoring teenagers as part of the Junior Achievement entrepreneurship program.
Head of Creative
Ever since she learned how to talk, Alexia has been making up her own stories. She never liked the ready-made tales being read to her from a book. She created her own characters and dictated to her mother how the story should be narrated and what should happen next... Well, she grew up to become a film director, telling stories and sharing them with the world. She loves reading books more than she enjoys watching films, using her imagination to create images and sounds to the words she reads. She has a passion for short films and since 2011 she serves as the Artistic Director of the International Short Film Festival of Cyprus (ISFFC). Her mission as the Head of Creative is to challenge, inspire and bring together the creativity and unique skills of all the talented individuals of the Zedem team.
As a child Andria used to spend endless hours watching all kinds of cartoons and animated films - and continues to do so today! After watching Hayao Miyazaki's "Spirited away" and Tim Burton's "Corpse Bride", she realized that animation was her calling. She loves learning new things everyday especially if it's related to character animation.
Head of Design
She grew up singing “Je ne veux pas travailler “ and actually achieved this life goal when she moved to Cyprus. She claims that she does not “work" for a living. She draws and designs all day. Creating uncharted and imaginary worlds. And the rest of the time? She just chills out under the Mediterranean sun... Nice move!
Motion Graphics Designer
As a little girl Maria would slide her books into the VHS player hoping to see the illustrations come alive on screen, but they did not. So, when 'one ring ruled them all' she decided to rule them all by studying animation.
Ever lost in her imagination, then with her nose stuck in a book from the moment she could read, it wasn't long before she combined the two and began writing and illustrating her own stories. Upon stumbling across a Ghibli film one day, the storytelling gripped her and a path was set in her mind; a whole new way to bring stories to life.
Georgia spent her childhood watching movies, making houses out of jenga sticks and people out of clay, drawing and writing stories. She still does all of the above, except now she makes movies and doesn't just watch them. When accused of living in another world, she now replies with: 'It's my job!'. Philosophy of life: 'If you can't find it, make it!'
From the moment she was born, Dimitra was a creature fascinated with strange, shiny commercials on late-night TV and painting furniture with eyeliner. To put it simply, she was a nightmare for her mother. Between watching her sew toilet paper together to make a book and forcing her brother to wear a tutu, the greatest minds of our time wondered how much it would take for her to destroy us all, and in the end the choice was unanimous: “she shall become an artist, it will buy us some time”. Since then, she has studied multiple forms of visual storytelling, starting from comic books to fine arts and then, she flew straight to Italy, to become an animator!
Up to this point, the plan seems to be working!
One of our two newest recruits named 'Rafael', he is also known as Rafael-K or 'Riff'.
As a child, Rafael spent his time playing video games, drawing his favourite heroes and watching cartoons all the time, especially looney tunes, as he never got bored of watching Wile E. Coyote falling from the cliffs! Ever since he wondered how these drawings come to life, he decided to learn these secrets, since for him it is a new form of creativity and expression. He loves learning new and challenging things and trying to get better every day, because evolving is a never-ending process.
The other one of our two newest recruits named 'Rafael', he is also known as Rafael-E or 'Raff'.
It all started when his father had this crazy idea to name his unborn children after renaissance painters. He accomplished 2/3 of his original goal but the seeds were planted. One of Rafael's (not the renaissance painter) first quotes was "When I grow up I want to become either an artist or a house painter. Because in both cases I will hold a brush in my hands". When his application in TMNT team was declined, he decided to follow his original plan. The rest is history...
One last thing you need to know. When he is not wondering though imaginary worlds, he loves to hike through the wonders of nature.
“One never knows when one might walk into a tale." – Ardaz (The Witch’s Daughter, R.A. Salvatore)
Ever since she could remember, tales and mythologies have been deeply bound to the way she looked at the world. This made her search for ways to narrate them through art. That’s when animated movies came to her attention. Trying to pause the films to understand how they were made, she discovered a new way of making art and decided to follow that intriguing path. Every project is a new adventure and there are many stories left to be told!
Kostis was born in Thessaloniki, Greece but was raised in a small village of indomitable Gauls. He grew up as a proud member of the Lost Boys of Neverland. He traveled across Middle Earth and ventured from the darkness of Gotham City to the bright Bikini Bottom. And when the letter from Hogwarts didn’t arrive he dedicated his life to bringing the stories he gathered into life and building worlds of endless possibilities.
From visualising his grandmother’s tales to studying the art of Visual Development and Storyboarding in Italy, he dips his brush in his own soul and turns his own nature into pictures.
Best served with a cup of coffee and an 80s rock playlist.
A quiet and introverted child, he would become ‘visible’ only when he would finish building majestic cities out of Leggos, which would take up whole rooms, or when he would finish a drawing, or a new episode from his comic book. As a teenager, using the family camera, he would direct movies starring his cousins. Eventually, growing up, he realized that by drawing he can express himself and become useful and that through this medium, he becomes the director of numerous stories. When he isn’t drawing, he is walking for hours through the largest interactive exhibition in the world; the cities of the world, just as he did a few years ago with his Leggos.
Ermina is an awesome illustrator. That's all you need to know for now. Stay tuned for the full story!
Many called Mike a nerd when he was younger because he liked to play video games, watched a lot of anime and spent most of his time dreaming of the day he would be able to replicate them.
His father believed in his passion and guided him. He is also 1/8th Japanese which makes the excessive anime watching totally fine.
He drew whenever he could and as soon as he got his first drawing tablet he knew that this was his calling in life. So he drew and he studied and then he drew some more and with his ongoing love and dedication for animation and 3D modelling he has managed to make a career out of his nerdiness.
It's the late 80s, Saturday morning, in a living room in S.Africa. A boy, 3 years old, is watching cartoons. The opening credits roll: 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles'! That was it, that and Spider-man. Every empty page in any book in the house became a canvas on which to draw Ninja Turtles, pizzas and Spider-man.
Fast forward to the late 90s, Cyprus. Saturday morning cartoons again: 'Dragon Ball', my introduction to anime. That and Final Fantasy VII and VIII! His immersion in these worlds made him want to immerse others in amazing worlds, to feel the magic through animation and game design!
The kids that doodled faces on the classroom wall and named them ‘WALL-E’, who took the Flintstones off their birthday cake and put on a show, who daydreamed their way out of the window, catching flights to Middle Earth on the wings of the fly on the wall.
We are artists. Functional daydreamers.
Whatever we do for fun, we do for work.
Those who have answered the call of duty to create.
